ISLAMABAD: On Monday evening, in front of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief General Asim Munir met with the top ten businesses in the nation to reassure them that the worst is over, that the country has avoided default, and that we will triumph as a whole. Although there is no official report on the meeting, insiders said that the army chief was upbeat and radiated confidence that the current economic challenges will be addressed. Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir assured them in the presence of Finance Minister
Ishaq Dar that Pakistan will successfully come out of the difficult economic
situation, and risk of default. Averted, the country will develop and we will emerge
as a prosperous nation.
There was no official statement regarding the meeting, but sources say
that the army chief appeared optimistic throughout the meeting and expressed
confidence that the current economic difficulties would be overcome.
He asked the entrepreneurs to be determined and confident. According to
a source, the army chief told the businessmen from different sectors that
hardships come upon the nation and we are facing difficult situations but we
have left the worst behind and we will remain strong.
General Asim referred to Islamic teachings and assured the participants
that Pakistan will succeed in the current examination.

A person involved in the meeting, on condition of anonymity, said the
businessmen had requested a meeting with the army chief. The Finance Minister
was invited by the Army Chief to attend the session. The businessmen termed the
meeting very successful.
The Army Chief and the Finance Minister told the businessmen that all
the pre-conditions of the IMF have been fulfilled and the agreement will be
concluded within a few days. He said that the IMF has also said that the
agreements made with friendly countries should also be documented in order to
speed up the economy.
Businessmen were told that friendly countries have also pledged to
invest in agriculture, mining, and IT sectors. The government expects to get
advanced equity from these countries. It was said that the civil and military
leadership together convinced the friendly countries for this investment.
A source said that the army chief was questioned by businessmen as to
why the establishment was not making efforts to bring politicians together to
tackle the serious challenges facing the country. The businessmen told the army
chief that the nation expects the army will not allow further discord and
division in society. Out of the ten businessmen who came to meet the army
chief, five belonged to Karachi while five were from Lahore.
